In today’s day and age, it is easy to forget about physical fitness. Sure, we are reminded by the workout gurus on TV who are trying to sell us one thing or another, but our lives are busy. Maybe you work at a desk all day. Maybe you work such long hours it is hard to think about anything besides work. However, if you are reading this article, something has sparked your interest in fitness again.

Maybe you found yourself having trouble getting up to your friend walkup or maybe it has become difficult to carry your groceries home. Whatever the reason, here are a few ways that you can get started on the pathway back to fitness.

No matter what your current level of fitness is, it is important to very slowly start increasing the amount and difficulty of exercise you do. Suddenly jumping into the kind of exercise you used to do twenty years ago could result in injury, will certainly make you exhausted and may make you want to quit. Choose a few easy ways to increase your activity level.

If you know that you spend most of the day sitting at a desk, you might want to start with trying to find ways to get up on your feet more often. Stand up when you are taking calls. Walk to your work’s break room to get your coffee and snacks instead of keeping them at your desk.

In addition, you can try cleaning your house or apartment when you get home. Sweeping, dishes and doing laundry will all get your body going.Another great way to start getting fit is to walk. Walking requires no equipment, can be done anywhere and it is easy on your joints.

It is also possible to have a very easy workout while walking, taking a slow pace on even ground for a short duration. However, you can make it more and more difficult as you feel up to it. You can pick up the pace, aim to go farther than you have before, try to find hills, and even mix in some running if you are really looking for a challenge.

As you begin to get into shape, you might find that sometimes your muscles are a little sore. If the soreness is mild and you are feeling a little bit stiff, try doing a bit of stretching. Mild soreness can come with building muscle. However, if you feel very uncomfortable, and your muscles are painful, you overdid it. The workout you did was too strenuous, and you need to back it up a few steps and start again with a more gradual increase in the duration and difficulty of your workouts.

Sometimes it is easy to think that the only way to get fit is to start going to the gym everyday to run and lift weights. The truth is that you can start getting fit by making small changes in your life. These small changes will help you make a permanent change towards a more active and healthier lifestyle, helping you feel better and get more out of your life.
